MIKAEL JÖBACK
Musical Director/ Conductor/ Arranger


Currently Musical Director and arranger for “Cabaret” [Tyrol, Sth/ Rondo, Gbg].
He is also behind “Beauty and the Beast” [Göta Lejon, Sthlm] including musical arrangements, backtrack-production and synth programming. Before that he was the Musical Director and arranger for “Grease” [Göta Lejon & Tour] In spring 2005 he conducted “Kiss of the Spiderwoman” at Malmö Opera, where he earlier conducted “Little things we do together”, a dramatized concert with full symphonic orchestra based on the work by Stephen Sondheim. Other work by Sondheim that Mikael has conducted is “Into the Woods” [NorrlandsOperan, Umeå] “Sunday in the Park with George” [Strindberg’s Intima Teater, Sthlm]) and “A Little Late Night Music” [Folkoperan, Sthlm].

He also conducted “A la Alhanko” [The Royal Swedish Opera & Tour], “Fame” and “Garbo -the musical” [Oscars Theatre, Sthlm].

He has arranged for several orchestras including Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Swedish Opera, DalaSinfoniettan, Malmö Opera, Östgöta BlåsarSymfoniker, Göteborgsmusiken.

Even though he was classical trained since the age of 6 he started his career as a pianist in the field of popular music and jazz. At first he was a Bar-pianist!? Then he did nationwide tours in the mid 80’s as a keyboardist. By a co-incident he was asked to play in a musical; “Stop the world-I want to get off”. And after that it came more: “Cats”, “Annie get your gun”, “Grease”, “Fame”, “West side story”, “Chicago”, “Victor, Victoria”.
He likes the theatre and has also studied drama, but music is the first love.

As a bandleader he has done several concerts and shows both on stage and on television. Including shows in the biggest nightclub stages in Stockholm: Hamburger Börs and Berns.

In the early 90’s he got hooked on Argentine Tango! In 1994 he went to Buenos Aires to fulfill his dream. When he returned he started the group “Tango Libre” and went on tour. Aside the group he does tango-concerts with orchestras.
